West Ham United are planning a surprise loan approach for Manchester United captain Harry Maguire this month, according to The Mirror.

The England international has had a tough season with the Red Devils under manager Erik ten Hag and he is currently not more than a squad player.

Maguire has started on the bench for most of the campaign and left-back Luke Shaw has recently been preferred ahead of him in central defence.

Hence, it is unsurprising that there is speculation over his future. The Mirror claim that the Hammers want to sign him on loan for the rest of the season.

The east London outfit are eyeing a replacement for Craig Dawson, who is said to be pushing for a return to Midlands with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Maguire has his sights on moving to London

Maguire has been out-of-favour under Ten Hag this campaign. The Dutch tactician clearly does not trust him enough.

Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Shaw are all ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment.

In our view, the 29-year-old appears to be looking for a move to London, having first been linked with Chelsea last summer.

The Blues did not carry forward the interest, but the Hammers could now provide him the opportunity.

Maguire would fit in perfectly with the more defensive playing style under manager David Moyes.

The £26 million-rated defender could be a leading star for the London outfit, but a loan deal seems unlikely for now.

With United vying for four trophies, Ten Hag would not want to weaken his squad by letting go of Maguire this month.

With a marquee replacement unlikely until the summer, we believe the Red Devils won’t part ways with Maguire temporarily.
