West Ham fans have taken to Twitter after David Moyes once again suggested that he has hit a brick wall in his search for a new striker.

After selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax way back in January 2021, the Hammers have had to make do with Michail Antonio as our only striker.

And the 31-year-old isn’t even a recognised centre-forward! It would be comical if it wasn’t true, the sort of thing you would find on a fictional TV programme.

It’s not though. It is very real and has cost us a chance to really push on and fight for the Champions League places this season.

Moyes too picky?

We understand Moyes’s stance that he will only sign players who can improve his squad. Sometimes they aren’t readily available though and you need to bring in a stop-gap signing to cover.

If you sell your house and are in between homes, you don’t just live on the street do you. You rent a house whilst waiting for the new one. The same theory should be applied to Moyes’s striker search.

It just seems as though the Scot is so scared to get the striker signing wrong that he is instead deciding to be inactive. It could actually be argued that that inactiveness is far worse than be active in the market and getting a transfer wrong.

Fans agitated by Moyes comments on West Ham striker search

The Hammers boss spoke to reporters after our 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford yesterday and suggested that he has been trying to sign a centre-forward for two years now, as quoted by Football.London:

“I think in a perfect world that is what we would try and do. We have been trying for a couple of years to add a striker to the group but we have not been able to. We have had quite a few offers for players at different times that have not been accepted or we could not get or [they] have been too expensive. So it is not for the want of trying and not like we are not seeing the same things that others are seeing. It is trying to get in players that I think can help us and make a difference but we will continue trying to look. With a week or so to go [in the transfer window] we will keep looking.”

Those comments are really difficult to read and digest.

Southampton signed Armando Broja on loan in the summer. Watford got Emmanuel Dennis for just £3.6 million (Daily Mail).

Meanwhile Crystal Palace signed Odsonne Edouard for £15 million (Eurosport) and Leicester got Patson Daka for just £23 million (Sky Sports).

There were bargain deals out there to be had.

Even Salomon Rondon on a free would have been better than nobody at all!

It seems as though Moyes is looking for an exact clone of Michail Antonio and that player doesn’t exist.

Some West Ham fans took to Twitter in reaction to Moyes’s comments on the Hammers’ hunt for a striker…
