West Ham United are reportedly closing in on making our first permanent signing of the summer transfer window.

That’s according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio who claims that Hammers boss David Moyes is fully convinced by the Frenchman. The goalkeeper has allegedly lowered his wage demands in order to help facilitate a deal.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper currently earns £120k-a-week and the Hammers have an option to buy him for £10 million in the summer (The Daily Mail).

David Moyes has utilised the Frenchman primarily as our cup keeper this season. He has played second fiddle to Lukasz Fabianski in the league but it’s clear to see that he is being primed to take over from the Pole as West Ham’s number one goalkeeper next term.

There have been concerns that the 6ft 5in stopper’s wages could scupper a move to the London Stadium.

It seems as though West Ham and Areola could be set to reach a compromise, however.

West Ham close in on first summer signing

Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Hammers will agree a deal to sign Areola on a permanent basis soon.

In all fairness, it’s the only decision that Moyes could make after some of the 29-year-old’s performances for West Ham in the Europa League this season.

He has been absolutely fantastic and was called up to the France national team squad yesterday.

Alphonse Areola will undoubtedly be our number one goalkeeper next season with Lukasz Fabianski dropping down to the bench.

£10 million for the French stopper is truly outstanding business. He could be our number one goalkeeper for the next eight years or so.

West Ham seem to be very close to making our first summer signing.

And we will be absolutely delighted when Areola officially signs on the dotted line.
