Salernitana ‘in talks’ with Tottenham Hotspur for January loan move of Senegal international Pape Matar Sarr
However, the discussion is still in its infancy and it remains to be seen whether the North London side will want to part ways with the youngster. Also, the 20-year-old will have a say in whether he wants to join the Italian club on a temporary transfer.
Speaking to the media via Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Salernitana club director Morgan de Sanctis also revealed the Garnets’ interest in Tottenham’s Sarr. The Serie A outfit are looking to sign players of the Senegal international’s abilities.
“Sarr is kind of player we need, he has the skills we want in that position.”
The 20-year-old signed for Spurs in the summer of 2021 from Metz in France. However, he spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan in Ligue 1 before moving to North London.
But Sarr has hardly gotten any game time under Antonio Conte. The 20-year-old only recently made his Premier League debut for Spurs, coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 loss against Aston Villa.
The Senegalese also featured in the 4-0 win away against Crystal Palace. It was another impressive display from the youngster. The midfielder showed glimpses of his talent in his two appearances.
Sarr also featured for Senegal at the 2022 World Cup. The 20-year-old came on as a substitution at half-time against England in the round of 16 in Qatar. But the Lions of Teranga lost 3-0.
Conte mostly has defensive midfielders at his disposal in the Tottenham squad. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp naturally play in the number six position. Only Rodrigo Bentancur and Sarr are capable of making things happen in the final third.

Thus, it will be interesting to see whether Spurs will want to send the youngster out on loan. However, considering his recent displays, it would be wise to keep the 20-year-old and give him more game time.
