Newcastle United could sell Tottenham Hotspur target Allan Saint-Maximin this summer

According to Daily Mail, Newcastle United could decide to sell Allan Saint-Maximin, who is a target for Tottenham Hotspur, in this summer transfer window. The former may take this stance to raise some funds to meet their needs and to follow the FFP regulations after their lavish spending back in January.

Newcastle are currently in doubt about proposing Saint-Maximin a new contract due to their inability to offer an increased wage package as of now. He has received deals from elsewhere, but they are unable to match those salaries and could decide to part ways with him this summer.

The Magpies want to improve the Frenchman’s wages, but their hands are tied due to the wage structure right now. Saint-Maximin is frustrated by this situation, and they have deemed him as one of their assets who could be sold, which allows Tottenham to try their cards to sign him ahead of the next season.

Saint-Maximin, a good backup option?

The 25-year-old could prove to be a valuable addition as a squad player for us at the right price. He had five goals and assists each to his tally from 35 Premier League games in the previous campaign, which is a solid return when playing for a team like the Toons.

One could say that the PL ace could improve on that output under Antonio Conte and a better surrounding at N17. In such a case, Saint-Maximin can become a solid reinforcement for us with Steven Bergwijn nearing the exit door in North London at this point.

Spurs have reached an agreement with Ajax for Bergwijn’s transfer, and a move could be finalised in the coming days. As such, we need to find a replacement which makes Saint-Maximin a dependable option indeed, although we would face competition from Chelsea for his signature.

The Blues’ interest is not the only obstacle that lies in our pathway right now, as Eddie Howe’s side have slapped a £40million asking price for Saint-Maximin’s services. Both London clubs are not interested in paying that sum which is quite reasonable indeed despite his quality.

Signing the Magpies superstar could solve two of our issues at once this summer. After all, he can be a good replacement for Bergwijn while also being an option to provide support to Harry Kane in the centre-forward role. In fact, Saint-Maximin is versatile enough to play anywhere in the attack, making him an exciting proposition for the right valuation.

Saint-Maximin’s impressive 4.2 dribbles per game are among the best of the bunch in the English top-flight. His addition would improve our attack on that front, but whether Howe’s team are willing to reduce their demands or not remains to be seen.
