Tottenham Hotspur offered Gabriel Jesus as transfer race for the Brazilian heats up

According to The Times (subscription required), Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the opportunity to make a move for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus this summer.

The reigning Premier League Champions are considering offers for their supremely talented No. 9, with his departure being imminent following the arrival of Erling Haaland to the blue half of Manchester.

Since joining from Brazilian side Palmeiras in 2017, Jesus has played 236 times for Manchester City – scoring 95 goals and providing 46 assists. Despite his chances being limited last season, he still managed to score eight Premier League goals

His natural talent and immense work rate have generated substantial interest in his services this summer. Arsenal were thought to be in pole position for his signature, given Gunners Technical Director Edu Gasper’s Brazilian connection and familiarity with Jesus.

Chelsea are also now in the race, according to the Express. The Blues, too, are in the market for a new striker after it was revealed that Romelu Lukaku is pushing for a move back to Inter Milan.

Which club is in the best position to land Jesus?

Arsenal can offer Jesus a guaranteed starting XI place and have the first-mover’s advantage in this particular deal. Alexander Lacazette’s departure will more or less make Jesus their go-to man upfront.

Spurs have the benefit of Champions League football, but cannot guarantee an assured starting place or risk making at least one of their current crop unhappy.  Chelsea’s striker dilemma has been ongoing for years, since the departure of Didier Drogba.

Out of all three clubs mentioned, it’s Spurs who have been offered the ball in their court by Manchester City. Should they match City’s asking price, Spurs may get their man and claim the bragging rights over both bitter rivals.
