West Ham are prepared to splash the cash on Arsenal owned centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to a report from German publication Kicker who claim that the 24-year-old is very much open to the idea of returning to play in the Premier League.
Central defence is definitely an area at the London Stadium where David Moyes needs to strengthen in the summer transfer window.
Angelo Ogbonna is still out with an ACL injury and he will be 34 before the end of the season. Meanwhile, Craig Dawson will be 32 next month and the jury is still very much out on whether Issa Diop is actually good enough to be playing elite level football.
And now West Ham boss Moyes could be looking to someone who is actually owned by Arsenal to help bolster his centre-back ranks next season…
West Ham eyeing summer transfer window swoop for Arsenal centre-back
According to a report from Kicker, the Hammers are ready to invest €25 million to sign the 24-year-old from Stuttgart this summer.
The Arsenal owned centre-back, 24, is currently out on loan in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart.
The German club have an option to sign the Greek ace for just £2.5 million (BILD). So they will undoubtedly take up that option before selling him on for a huge profit.
Mavropanos has been a real hit with Stuttgart. In 28 Bundesliga outings, he has scored four goals and averaged 1.9 tackles, 2.2 interceptions and 5.3 clearances per match. The Greek ace has also won an average of 2.9 aerial duels per game (Who Scored).
Considering his fine form in the Bundesliga, there is a very good chance that he will be snapped up on a permanent deal by the Germans. Stuttgart may well then decide to move him on once again for a massive profit.
The Arsenal owned ace is a top-class defender and possesses all of the physical attributes needed to go on and succeed in the Premier League.
He’s at the right age as well now to really make a name for himself back in England. The Bundesliga’s official website has described the Arsenal loanee as an ‘excellent’ defender as well as a ‘gladiator’.
West Ham paying £21 million for Mavropanos in the summer transfer window seems like very good value to us.
