The Scot ended his long search for a new striker in the summer when he signed Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo. It could be argued that the Hammers still need a lot more though.
And it seems as though West Ham could be battling Leeds for the same player this winter…
West Ham and Leeds set for January transfer tussle
According to a report from Tutto Salernitana, the Hammers and the Whites both want to sign the 26-year-old striker after the World Cup.
West Ham missed out on the Senegalese attacker to Villarreal in the summer of 2021.
The 19-capped Senegal striker bagged just seven goals and five assists in 35 games for the Spanish side last term though (Transfermarkt).
He left Villarreal to join Italian side Salernitana on a season-long loan in the summer, and has since racked up six goals and two assists in 14 Serie A games (Transfermarkt).
And it seems as though the striker is still very much on the Hammers’ radar…
Dia is powerful, has explosive pace and is a real menace for opposing defenders.
Gazzetta dello Sport reckons that Villarreal could sell him for around £14 million.
The Senegalese forward has been far from prolific recently, and he definitely hasn’t set the World Cup alight out in Qatar, despite scoring last time out for his country.
It will be interesting to see which club pushes harder for the signing of Dia in the January transfer window out of West Ham and Leeds.
