Fraser Forster is all set to join Tottenham Hotspur after completing his medical
The 34-year-old is an experienced shot-stopper and has made over 400 appearances for various British clubs over the years. A proven player in the English top-flight, Forster brings with him enough pedigree to act as Hugo Lloris’s backup.
His current deal with Southampton will run out this summer. By moving quickly Tottenham are securing a key position and also adding depth ahead of what will be an exciting 2022/23 campaign.
Spurs’ current second-choice goalkeeper, Pierluigi Gollini is set to return to Atalanta when his contract expires this summer. Lloris is the indisputable first choice between the sticks despite his age and it makes sense for Spurs to bring in an experienced backup who can step up when needed.
At 34, this is Forster’s last opportunity to move to a big club and be part of something special. While he is at best a short term option, the experience he brings to the table more than makes up for it.
The veteran has won six caps for England and also was recently called up to Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad. Whether a move to N-17 will hand Forster a shot at making the England World Cup squad this year remains to be seen.
A strong and deep squad is necessary if Tottenham are to compete on multiple fronts next season. Bringing in Forster is a shrewd move and could prove pivotal should he be called upon. Who else will follow him through the doors at Tottenham this summer remains to be seen.
