Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has credited his better returns on the pitch to the summer break he received.

The Englishman has been the most prolific attacker for Erik ten Hag, scoring seven goals and notching three assists in 17 games.

This is a huge improvement from last season where he bagged merely six goals and two assists across all competitions.

Speaking to ManUtd.com, Rashford admitted that the summer break has reignited his career.

He said, “It was time away from everything. I think physically I needed a rest, and I’ve probably needed a rest for a while, but mentally, just to have two weeks or whatever it was to just switch off – it’s something that I probably don’t do enough.

“Because we’re busy and there’s always something to look forward to and something to work towards.

“I didn’t know I needed it. But when I’ve had it, when I’ve come back, and even towards the back end of [the] holidays, I just felt in a different headspace, to be honest.”

Rashford’s goal against West Ham was his 100th strike in United’s jersey. He became only the 22nd member to join this elite list of scoring 100 goals for the Red Devils.

The previous season was a disaster for United’s number 10.

Teenager Anthony Elanga was preferred over him for a brief stage of the campaign as his poor form forced Ralf Rangnick to drop him to the bench.

It was important for Rashford to deliver this term and he is on the right path. He looks much more threatening, especially when taking the defenders on.

He is playing with the energy and intent for which he is known for.

Hopefully, the 25-year-old continues his rich form because he has a big role to play under Ten Hag.
