Man United will demand a hefty transfer fee to let Dean Henderson leave.

There’s no doubt about it that when Erik ten Hag eventually takes charge of Manchester United, major changes will be made.

Players will be acquired to fit the Dutchman’s style of play while others will inevitably move on to pastures new.

One man whose future remains up in the air is Dean Henderson. The Englishman is more than good enough to start on a regular basis at a high level. The problem? He has David de Gea in front of him here in Manchester.

Usurping the Spaniard has proved difficult thus far, with Henderson understandably becoming frustrated with the situation.

Well, we’ve now been given the clearest indication yet that the Old Trafford club would be willing to let Henderson leave. As they’ve set an asking price for the ‘unsettled’ 25-year-old, the Daily Star report.

Apparently, the Reds will demand £40million to let their back-up shot-stopper leave, and that’s a fee they ‘will not budge on’. Henderson is attracting Premier League interest, with Newcastle United remaining keen on acquiring the goalie this summer.

If the Reds do achieve their asking price, it’d make Henderson the most expensive British keeper in history – which tells you an awful lot about just how good he is.

There’s no doubt a move to Newcastle United is an attractive one for Henderson, as the Magpies are a club on the rise again.

I do wonder whether United will explore the possibility of keeping Henderson around, though. The Old Trafford outfit love to protect their asset. There’s only a year or two left of De Gea’s prime, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Reds go with Henderson this summer.

It’s an idea I can fully get behind, too. Henderson has massive potential. He’s far better with the ball at his feet than De Gea is, and in the modern-day game that’s one of the first things these progressive managers look for.

I get that it’s a gamble, but I’d be pretty gutted to see Henderson playing at a high level for another Premier League club beyond the 2021/22 season.
