Man United have released a statement on the Cristiano Ronaldo interview, that’s making waves in the media right now.

It has been a rather strange 24 hours at Manchester United Football Club. In amongst all the Alejandro Garnacho hype, typically, Cristiano Ronaldo wants to steal the limelight.

The Portugal international has held a sitdown, 90-minute interview with Piers Morgan. In which he seemingly brutally attacks United constantly. The timing of it just felt strange, seeing as he remained quiet while at the club, but opens his mouth as soon as he heads off for the World Cup.

Anyway, after spending the morning processing the news, the club, fronted by manager Erik ten Hag, are no doubt fuming behind the scenes. The Red Devils have since released a rather short statement, in which they ‘note(s)’ the interview, while they’ll remain tight-lipped until the full facts are established.

The club have released a Cristiano Ronaldo statement, which you can read in full here:

Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.

Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans.

More than anything, this is just wholly disappointing. Ronaldo always tries to portray someone who loves the fans and the club – though this interview has been nothing but the opposite.

Coming after Ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick, Wayne Rooney and no doubt many others, Ronaldo is completely breaking character here.

To me, it feels like nothing more than Ronaldo failing to accept that he’s no longer the best in the business. Instead of coming to that conclusion, he’s trying to pass the blame and look for excuses. That’s just sad.

I genuinely think he should never wear that badge again. He doesn’t deserve to. That’s probably the outcome he also wants, but there’s no way Ten Hag can let this slide. If allowed, I’d terminate his contract as soon as possible.
