Man United are looking to offload central defender Eric Bailly for a greatly reduced fee this summer.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United will look very different from matchday one. The Old Trafford club have already confirmed loads of first-team regulars will leave at the end of the month upon their contract expiry.

Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Nemanja Matic will all depart. That’ll free up plenty of space on the weekly wages, though.

One man who remains under contract is Eric Bailly. It’s fair to say that the Ivory Coast international has been yet another disappointment for the Old Trafford faithful after what was a solid debut season.

Not too long ago, it was reported that Bailly had been made officially available for transfer. Though there never looked to be substantial interest in the ex-Villareal man.

Now, according to The Mirror, Bailly has been offered to fellow Premier League side, Newcastle United.

Under new ownership, the Magpies are looking to spend big this summer and start climbing the table. There’s no doubt that attracting someone like Bailly to the club would certainly make the wider footballing world take some notice of what they’re doing at St. James’ Park.

Also in that story by The Mirror is some information in regards to transfer fee. United are apparently now ‘prepared’ to accept an £8.5m fee for Bailly. Though a source close to the ‘camp’ believes United ideally want £20m.

Obviously, there’s a massive gap between those two fees. And I can 100% confirm there is absolutely no way that United will get anything close to £20m for the now-28-year-old Bailly.

Don’t forget that this is a player who the Red Devils paid a huge £30m for under Jose Mourinho way back in 2016, so either way, this represents a pretty shocking bit of business by the Old Trafford club.

It comes back to injuries first and foremost. Bailly hasn’t been able to keep himself fit for a prolonged period of time, meaning his body has never really been at 100% over the last five years. That takes its toll on any player eventually.

At this point, a move away is exactly what Bailly needs in an effort to kickstart his career elsewhere. Whether or not he’s able to do that is another question entirely, though a move to Newcastle United would certainly give him that opportunity.
