Man United have sent Ajax an offer in an effort to sign Antony.

With the transfer window now officially open, we’re finally starting to see things ramp up from a Manchester United standpoint.

The Old Trafford club seem to be pushing hard to try and bring Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag keen on surrounding himself with some familiarity.

In similar manner, Ten Hag is also looking at bringing in players from his former club Ajax. I guess this was an easy transfer rumour to make, with the Dutchman more than happy to continue to work with players he has enjoyed success with over in the Eredivisie.

Winger Antony is one of those Ajax players who are being talked up in regards to a potential Old Trafford move.

It’s journalist Jorge Nicola with the latest information. On his YouTube channel, he claims that United have made an offer to sign the Brazilian. That figure is thought to be around £38.5m (€45m), though Ajax are thought to want a higher figure for the player.

What’s interesting is that Nicola added that Antony is Ten Hag’s ‘number one request’, before stating it’s only a ‘matter of time’ before this deal is done.

“He is the number one request of Erik ten Hag, it’s just a matter of time and negotiations for the agreement to be closed.” Nicola said.

I’m not going to sit here and tell you that Antony is the best thing since sliced bread. In fact, I don’t particularly know much about him as a player.

However, I do know that United need help in the final third of the field. Aside from Cristiano Ronaldo, our attackers majorly struggled in 2021/22. Bringing in someone who enjoyed a top-class season under Ten Hag definitely makes a lot of sense.

There is always a risk when buying from the Netherlands, though. Just look at Memphis Depay, who came to Manchester with promise aplenty, but largely struggled to adjust to the English game.

Antony, age just 22, would absolutely need time to settle in. However, the familiarity he has with Ten Hag would definitely speed up that process.
