Erik ten Hag could look at bringing Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana to Man United.
We’ve said it time and time again, but we still cannot get over the fact that Manchester United conceded the fifteenth-most goals in the Premier League last season. That’s despite having the most expensive back line in the country…
There’s no doubt that some tactical tweaks will have to be made by the Old Trafford club this summer, with Erik ten Hag identified as the man to do that. However, new signings in that area of the field also wouldn’t go amiss.
Jurrien Timber has been the most-linked name, though Louis van Gaal is doing his best to scupper that deal.
Apparently, United are interested in signing the Premier League centre-back, as are Chelsea.
Fofana missed large chunks of the 2021/22 season due to injury, though that isn’t stop the so-called ‘big clubs’ in England from making their move.
The France U21 international wouldn’t come cheap, mind. Leicester City will demand a fee of £68m to let the 21-year-old leave the King Power this summer. Obviously, that’s a steep fee.
Leicester’s reasoning behind that is likely due to Fofana’s age. This is someone who could offer United a decade worth of service at the highest level, while the fact that the Foxes would be selling to a fellow Premier League club also bumps up the price.
It’s said that both United and Chelsea could firm up their interest in Fofana in the coming weeks, though as things stand, no concrete offer has been made.
United will no doubt be thinking extra-carefully about this possible move, particularly as the club spent so much money to bring in Harry Maguire from Leicester. That’s hardly gone according to plan at this point…
