Man United could sell Anthony Martial this summer despite Erik ten Hag apprecating the Frenchman. A new striker could also be on the cards.
Anthony Martial’s case is an intriguing one. There can be no doubting his natural talent and ability. That has been on display since day one, when he was signed from AS Monaco.
Sadly, consistency has always been lacking – both in terms of performances and injuries.
This season has been a travesty for Martial in regard to time out on the treatment table. After an impressive season, the Frenchman has missed 20 games due to injury, struggling to find any sort of stability in 2022/23.
As a result, Wout Weghorst has been brought in on a short-term loan in order to lead the line for the Red Devils. However, the Dutchman isn’t the long-term solution to the problem.
Fabrizio Romano’s latest Caught Offside column gave us an insight on Martial’s future, with the Italian journalist claiming that Ten Hag ‘appreciates’ the 27-year-old United star. However, the Reds will make a move for a new striker this summer.
Romano even went further than that, adding ‘there’s a chance’ United will put Martial up for sale when the transfer window opens. As things stand, there are currently no negotiations taking place with other clubs.
Ten Hag is in a weird spot. Martial is a quality footballer. He looked sharp in pre-season. However, he’s no good to United if he cannot stay fit. Although it’d be painful to let such a talent leave, perhaps it makes sense at this juncture to move away from the Frenchman.
Either way, it’s certainly going to be intriguing to see who United target for that striker position.
