Juventus have held talks with the representatives of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, Italian outlet Corriere Torino claims (today’s edition, page 12) claims.

The Frenchman’s contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of June. With the lack of negotiations, it appears likely that he will head out on a free transfer.

A number of high-profile European clubs have been linked with him, and Corriere Torino claims that Juventus have held talks with Pogba’s entourage over a reunion.

It is added that the Bianconeri want him to become their ‘franchise man’ with Paulo Dybala set to leave. His huge fan following in social media has been highlighted.

As things stand, they are not anywhere close to signing him. Pogba must accept a significant pay-cut on his current €17.6 million annual salary to return to Turin.

The Bianconeri have set a wage cap of €7m per year, but they are willing to go up to €10m to re-sign Pogba. It is reported that Paris Saint-Germain could dent their plans.

Our view:

Pogba has been sidelined for the past few weeks with a calf injury, and it appears he may have already played his final game in the Red Devils shirt.

Despite this, the 28-year-old has been respectful over his stay. He can sign a pre-contract with a foreign club, but seems prepared to wait until the end of the season to do so.

Pogba won’t be short of offers during the summer. Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are among clubs that could offer him a salary hike alongside a significant signing-on fee.

The Bianconeri are not in a similar situation, having drastically reduced their wage bill recently. This has been a prime reason behind opting against an improved deal for Paulo Dybala.

Pogba, who is valued at £49.5 million by Transfermarkt, has a big decision to make over his future. Juventus are open to a reunion, but it is unlikely to happen if money is the deciding factor.
