Alan Shearer makes bold Harry Kane claim after Erling Haaland’s Manchester City exploits

Manchester City signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer – one year after pursuing Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur.

As per the Guardian, the Cityzens were ready to pay as high as €150m for the England international but Spurs didn’t budge. Instead, they have signed Haaland and our fans would hope that puts them off Kane’s trail once and for all.

The Norway international has blown his competition out of the water this season. He is comfortably leading the Premier League Golden Boot race with 15 goals this season.

Kane is next, with eight so far. Haaland also has five goals in three UEFA Champions League matches for the Cityzens, which takes his tally up to 20 goals already this season.

Our number 10 praised Haaland but claimed that he is focused on himself this season. You’ve got to think that the thought of ‘what could have been’ would have raced through Kane’s mind when he saw Haaland scoring all these goals this season.

According to Alan Shearer, the English centre-forward would have had the same success in front of goal with service from world-class creators like Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. He wrote in his column on the Athletic (Subscription Required):

“If Harry was in this City team, he would be scoring as many goals as Erling has. This is dreamland for any top forward. I’ve said it all along — a top goalscorer in this City team should score 40 goals. If Erling stays fit then he’ll get that and maybe even some more.”

Kane is in the final two years of his contract at Spurs. Hopefully, the Lilywhites can extend his stay here beyond the summer of 2024.

Given he has stayed in north London and virtually given up on a near-guaranteed domestic trophy (or trophies), it wouldn’t be a surprise that he ends up staying here for a long time.

More Tottenham News:

The record of most PL goals rests with Shearer (260). Hopefully, the urge to break that record and make himself immortal compels him to stay with us – although that would then not rule out moving to another English team.
