Harry Maguire is sick, putting his availability for the Nottingham Forest game into doubt…
Manchester United play their first Premier League game in well over a month on the 27th, with Erik ten Hag’s side looking to hit the ground running and make a real assault on the Premier League’s top four.
Going on a nice winning run to start things off would be massive, though that’s easier said than done. Next up, a game against big-spending Nottingham Forest. Make no mistake about it, this will not be easy.
United could have a centre-back crisis on their hands going into this one. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez competed in a World Cup final less than a week ago, with Casemiro playing in that position in midweek.
That’s due to Harry Maguire being sick. The gaffer admitted that the United star could miss the Forest game, with the club having to wait on his availability…
Check out what Ten Hag had to say on the Maguire latest in full:
“I can’t answer because Harry is sick. I don’t know how that develops. We have to wait. Maybe the coming hours, maybe the coming days, and then we will see if he is available for Forest.” Ten Hag told ManUtd.com.
This would have been a game which Maguire absolutely would have started. Most likely alongside Victor Lindelof.
If Maguire cannot go, it gives Ten Hag another selection headache. In all likelihood, it’d probably mean Casemiro playing back there again – which is less than ideal despite the Brazilian being more than capable of playing there.
More than anything, this is an opportunity wasted for Maguire if he can’t play. Who knows when he could potentially get another opportunity to force his way back into the United XI? Honestly, it really does feel like Maguire’s time here in Manchester is drawing down to a close.
