Flynn Downes must be brought into this West Ham United starting XI as a matter of urgency after Tomas Soucek’s horrendous dip in form.
Soucek has been absolutely woeful this season – he has for the past year or so in all fairness.
And whilst the Czech has struggled, Flynn Downes has really flourished in the games that he’s played.
Sure, the Premier League is another level to the Europa Conference League both technically and physically.

But Downes’ ability on the ball and his physical nature means that he should suit Premier league football perfectly.
And now I feel as though David Moyes doesn’t have much choice but to bring the 23-year-old midfielder in to the team in place of the Czech Republic international…
Flynn Downes solution is screaming out to West Ham boss David Moyes
The ex-Swansea City ace absolutely has to come into the team as a matter or urgency now.
Soucek has become a complete liability. Lovely bloke, but a really, really poor footballer.
Signed for £14 million from Swansea in the summer (Wales Online), the 23-year-old midfielder has been slowly eased into action by Moyes.
Meanwhile, Soucek is named in pretty much every single West Ham starting XI, certainly the Premier League ones.
His aerial ability and stamina seem to be the only things that are keeping him in David Moyes’s lineup at the moment.
I strongly believe that Downes should be starting regularly now in the league though. Moyes must be thinking about doing it, and Soucek must be aware of it as well.
Downes is on an entirely different level to Soucek, when it comes to technical ability on the ball.
The way that the ex-Swansea ace takes the ball on the back foot and opens up his body provides so much more fluidly to our play through the middle of the park.
He also enables West Ham to move the ball quicker in transition than when Soucek is playing.
The former Slavia Prague man must be starting to seriously worry about his place in David Moyes’s starting XI.
If Moyes truly wants his West Ham team to become more of a possession based one, then he needs to bring Flynn Downes into the side in place of Soucek.
There can be no debate about that.
Whether Moyes is ready to make the change is highly doubtful though. The Scot has always been extremely reluctant to make too many changes.
All that Downes can do is keep putting the pressure on Moyes to pick him over Soucek with top level performances when he’s given the chance.
