Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has heaped praise on Luke Shaw ahead of the club’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The England international has started in the left centre-back role over the past week in the absence of Lisandro Martinez, who has just arrived after World Cup duty.
Shaw was flawless in the victories over Nottingham Forest as well as Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ten Hag has now said that he has been fabulous for the team.
However, the Dutch tactician added that the €28 million-rated star is really good as a left-back but it is always good to have an extra option in central defence.
He told Manutd.com: “We have seen the last two games he has been fabulous. In possession you can have better angles with the left foot. He has impressed but, of course, we know he is really good as a left full-back. It’s an extra option and that’s always good for a team.”
Meanwhile, the manager provided an update on the fitness of Diogo Dalot, Martinez and Scott McTominay, who have been absent for the past two league outings.
Dalot recently returned to training after a minor hamstring injury and Ten Hag has said that the club don’t want to take any risks with him with the games coming thick and fast.
Elsewhere, Ten Hag revealed that McTominay and Martinez will need to be assessed but he was quite optimistic that the pair would be available for selection tomorrow.
He added: “We have to see [on McTominay and Martinez]. Both were training yesterday and today. I’m quite optimistic that they can both return to the squad.”
“Diogo Dalot also made good progress. We don’t want to take risks with anyone because we know there are many games to come and we need a full squad to cover all the games.”
Manchester United eyeing fourth-straight league win
United were not at their best against Wolves on New Year’s Eve but got the desired result in the end. Marcus Rashford put up a strong display in the second half with the winning goal.
The 25-year-old started off the bench due to arriving late for a team meeting but he should feature in the starting line-up tomorrow when the Cherries make the Old Trafford trip.
United are clear favourites to beat the South Coast outfit but need to guard against complacency. The Cherries picked up a surprise 1-0 win against them in their last top-flight season.
Ten Hag will be hoping that his team can fully capitalise on their scoring chances. He has seen plenty of good displays but the players have yet to produce a complete attacking performance.
