Di Marzio says Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United are right projects for Cody Gakpo
Cody Gakpo has been told by journalist Gianluca Di Marzio that Tottenham Hotspur are one of three Premier League clubs that could be the right fit for him.
The Netherlands international himself admitted that he came very close to joining Manchester United this summer. Leeds United and Southampton, by his own admission, were also keen on him but he decided to stay in the Eredivisie.
“When you play in the Eredivisie with PSV and Ajax, you obviously learn intensity and quality, so the Premier League is the right move for players like him. I think Manchester United, Arsenal or Tottenham.”
Spurs, in particular, were singled out by the Italian journalist as a team who should make a move for the 23-year-old versatile forward. According to him, Tottenham need a player of his ilk.
“Tottenham, I think, need other players like him to have a deeper squad and more managerial choices. One of those teams. It depends on what PSV want for him. I think Manchester United or Arsenal, or Tottenham, for that matter, are the right projects for a quality and intense player like him.”
Spurs do have three highly versatile forwards in Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, and Richarlison. Essentially, these three can play anywhere in attack.
Dejan Kulusevski is also a high-quality player who has several years still ahead of him as a footballer. Currently, there doesn’t seem to be an urgent need for someone like Gakpo, even though he has 13 goals and 11 assists in 18 games across competitions this season.

However, he could be a very smart investment regardless – given the competition he can provide and, of course, his age profile is very desirable too. Whether he will be okay with not being a pinned starter in a team is a different story.
