Dean Henderson is all set to head to Nottingham Forest for the 2022/23 season.
Manchester United Football Club are yet to make any signings this summer, though the Red Devils are doing a good job at wiping the slate clean for Erik ten Hag.
The Old Trafford club aren’t really close to bringing any players in, which must feel super frustrating. As things stand, the squad is looking pretty thin on the ground.
Well, it’s about to get a little thinner, with Dean Henderson on his way out.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the United star is set to leave the club on loan for the 2022/23 season. He’ll head to Nottingham Forest.
The good news (from our perspective anyway), is that there is no option to buy outright, meaning Henderson will be coming back to Old Trafford in twelve months’ time.
This deal has been talked up over the last couple of weeks and now it looks like we’re not too far away from an official announcement being made.
My stance on Henderson hasn’t changed. I genuinely believe he’s good enough to play for United under Ten Hag right now. However, I understand it’d be a bold call to drop David de Gea given his current form.
In terms of fit, Henderson feels better than De Gea for what Ten Hag wants to achieve. With the ball at feet, De Gea typically struggles while Henderson looks far more comfortable in that situation.
I guess Henderson will be closely assessed throughout the course of this term, though no doubt he’s now getting frustrated with life in Manchester. Aged 25 and not really being given a chance to this point, with a contract that only has a couple of years left to run.
United have to put faith in Henderson or move him on permanently pretty quickly.
