Joao Felix’s Chelsea move stikes a huge blow to West Ham boss David Moyes and Man United in the race for Dutch star Memphis Depay.

Football Insider claimed West Ham were offered the chance to sign ex Manchester United forward Depay from Barcelona in the summer.

Hammers boss Moyes even addressed the rumours in a press conference with talk the club’s owners were keen on doing the deal.

Matt Hughes of The Daily Mail claimed in the print edition (13 August, pg. 113) that West Ham co-owner David Sullivan was keen to sign Depay but Moyes had made it clear that he wanted the Irons to pursue other striker targets.

And The Mail suggested that had caused a rift between Moyes and the board. Hammers News then spoke to co-owner Sullivan who gave that story short shrift.

One thing is for sure, though, West Ham, Man United and Chelsea are all in need of more firepower up front.

The Hammers have scored a paltry 15 goals in 18 league games so far this term while Man United are looking for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Chelsea are actively doing something about the situation by bringing in Joao Felix on a big-money loan from Atletico Madrid.

West Ham have been linked with a host of forwards but were hit by a blow when a report from Sport (print edition January 7th, page 6) claimed Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wants to bring Depay back to Old Trafford.

Worse still it was claimed the 86-capped Holland international is ready to rejoin the Red Devils, having left them six years ago.

But it seems Felix’s Chelsea move strikes a huge blow to West Ham boss Moyes and Man United in the race for Dutch star Depay.

Because Spanish outlet Cadena SER claims Atletico Madrid’s number one target to replace Chelsea’s new arrival Felix is none other than Depay.

The Dutchman is out of favour under Barca boss Xavi Hernandez, and Cadena SER claim Atleti want to offer him the opportunity to play more football during the remainder of the season.

Football Espana have even claimed negotiations are already underway between Barca and Atletico in what would be a real blow to both West Ham and Man United.

It may explain why Ten Hag has suddenly switched attentions to Depay’s compatriot Wout Weghorst this week while the Hammers have been linked with moves for Youssef En-Nesyri and Terem Moffi.

And it will undoubtedly give Chelsea fans extra glee that their big moves in the window are causing ripple effects that are proving detrimental to the plans of their Premier League rivals.
