Club News: Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison hints that he could miss the World Cup

Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison has hinted that he could miss the World Cup next month after sustaining an injury during the last game against Everton.

Richarlison was forced off in the 52nd minute against his former side which Spurs went on to win 2-0, courtesy of goals from Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. It is believed that the 25-year-old sustained a calf injury.

The forward limped off and was later seen in crutches. Speaking to ESPN Brasil (h/t Daily Mail), the Brazilian international was tearful as he reflected on the possibility of missing the World Cup next month.

“It’s so close to the realisation of my dream. I’ve already suffered a similar injury to this but I hope it can heal as soon as possible. I know it’s hard to talk at this moment but let’s see. I’ll recover. Monday, I have an examination but even walking hurts. I have to stay positive if I want to go to Qatar.”

A calf injury last season sidelined the forward for a whole month and Antonio Conte has ruled out the 25-year-old for his side’s clash against Manchester United this Wednesday.

Should the forward be sidelined again for a long time, it will come as devastating news to both Spurs and Brazil fans. The former Everton man has been in excellent form this season.

Richarlison has played 13 games so far in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering three assists. The Brazilian has been a constant threat to all our opponents and seems to have formed a very good partnership with Kane and Son Heung-min up front.

It remains to be seen what the results say on Monday after the player has his tests done. Fans will hope that it is nothing serious considering we have an important game coming up against Manchester United later this week – which now looks hard for Richy to be fit in time for.

More Tottenham News:

If the injury, unfortunately, turns out to be something serious for the former Everton man, then Gabriel Jesus of Arsenal and Roberto Firmino would be frontrunners to make the cut for Tite’s squad that travels to Qatar.
